Bleakwood Hollow

Frozen Timber

The Wendigo drops from the pines, the Rime waits under powder, and the Flayer runs the drift.

Bleakwood Hollow lies buried under drifted powder where black spruce trees freeze down to the core. Snow falls without wind, deadening sound along the pine ridges. Red stains mark frozen bark where winter hunters drag carcasses into the upper branches.

Three predators claim the timber floor. The Bleakwood Wendigo towers the trail, flashing bloody claws and an open ribcage through the pine boughs. Beneath the snowdrifts, the Grave Rime waits like frozen stone until an ankle breaks the crust. Circling the clearing, the Frost Flayer lopes on four knuckled limbs and runs down travelers who turn to flee.

The pack hunts by driving travelers into deep drifts where frozen boots cannot find purchase. The Frost Flayer strikes first, lunging out of the treeline to separate stragglers from the fire. When a climber stumbles, the Grave Rime surfaces and seizes legs with ice-numbed talons.

With the party pinned in the snow, the Bleakwood Wendigo drops from the pines. Its shriek breaks a defensive line and sends people into fresh drifts. The pack avoids a long stand-off. They drag victims into the frozen dark and leave crimson furrows in the snow.

Example encounter

1. Put the Frost Flayer on the treeline, the Grave Rime under a drift on the trail, and the Bleakwood Wendigo in the pine canopy.

2. On the Flayer's first spotlight, use Snow Lunge to close from Far into Melee and force an Agility Reaction Roll (15).

3. On a failure, the target is knocked prone and becomes Vulnerable until they stand.

4. Spotlight the Grave Rime from Hidden. Use Chilled Grasp so the hit marks 1 Stress and leaves them Vulnerable.

5. While a target is Vulnerable, Frost Bite adds 1d8 physical and advantage on the Rime's attacks.

6. Spend a Fear on Winter Terror. Targets within Close make a Presence Reaction Roll (15) or mark 1 Stress and lose reactions.

7. When a PC marks HP within Far range, spend a Fear on Blood Scent so the Wendigo reaches Melee and attacks.

8. After a Crimson Claw hit, let the Flayer cut the retreat line across the drifts.
